Impromptu Trip to Mexico City

Brea Monet

Day 1 of my journey to Mexico, we missed our connecting flight from Mexico City to Tuxtla Gutierrez. This gave us a free day in our itinerary to go to the Zocalo. Here we exchanged money, bought local souvenirs, ate the amazing street tacos, experienced the and even witnessed a sage cleansing.

The people in Mexico City are very forward and in the moment. They move at their own pace but expect you to move at their pace as well. The town is hustling with cabs and people everywhere. the smell of pork tacos and sage are in the air. On almost every corner, you can buy souvenirs. Occasionally, an older civilian or a young child will ask you for spare pesos to bless them and their family.

This part of the trip opened my eyes to the authentic Mexico. I seen so many different cultures and heard so many different languages. In that moment I felt like a sponge, absorbing everything.

It made me realize how fortunate and blessed I am.
